Pastoral Search Focus Groups

The purpose of the focus groups is to help the Pastoral Search Committee understand each group’s unique perspectives on the church and what they want to see in our new pastor.  Each group has been selected recognizing that each of these groups likely have differing priorities on where they see the church going, where they want it to go and how a new pastor can lead the church in that direction. Insights gathered from these groups will help the Pastoral Search Committee better understand the needs, preferences and behaviors of each of the groups, with the goal of identifying common themes, highlight emerging trends and uncover unique perspectives.

For each focus group, at least two facilitators (members of the Pastoral Search Committee) will schedule the meetings with focus group members, guide the conversation, and document the results.  The Pastoral Search Committee has developed a unique set of questions for each of the focus group to consider in their discussions.  These questions will be provided to the focus group members before their first meeting to enable the group participants prepare their thoughts before coming to the focus group meeting(s).

Pastoral Search Process:
The pastoral search is not just about finding the right leader – it’s about all of us discerning God’s will together. Our role as a committee is to steward this process faithfully and transparently. The committee’s role is to lead the search process, identify qualified candidates, and recommend a final candidate to the congregation for approval. The role of the congregation is to select the next pastor. Every member has one vote. Please know that the final decision to call our next pastor will be made by the membership – not the Deacon Board, not the Trustee Board, and not the search committee. The committee’s role is to facilitate the process with prayerful diligence, inclusion of congregational input, and present a recommendation for the church to vote on.
